So we have dream't up some very crazy ideas that still tie in with the lesser known Olympic motto of 'Slower, lower, stupider!'

ROYAL SHROVETIDE FOOTBALL

 

ASHBOURNE, DERBYSHIRE

TUESDAY 21 FEBRUARY (PANCAKE DAY)

 

A football match with a difference, actually 3 miles of difference.  There are no rules, the  game can go on all day (and night) and the pitch is anywhere and inevitably, everywhere.  Here are a few tips to guarantee your enjoyment (and safety).

 

1. Don't park your car anywhere near Ashbourne

2.  Don't get in the way of the players

3. Don't follow the ball into the lake...it's February!

4.  Wear plenty of clothes and bring spares clothes if you forgot to read the above.

5. If you want to keep up with the play all day you will need to be relatively fit. If you're unfit you won't see much action.

EMPIRE STATE BUILDING RUN UP

 

 

WEDENSDAY 8 FEBRUARY

 

A running race with a nasty up hill section...actually 1576 steps.  At least after this you will never complain about the walk home from the pub!  There's an 8pm start

 so  no chance of knocking a few office

 workers on the way.

 

 

GREAT SPITALFIELDS

PANCAKE RACE

 

DRAY WALK, off BRICK LANE, LONDON

 TUESDAY 21 FEBRUARY

 

Teams of four compete in a series of races whilst tossing a pancake.  Fancy dress and frying pan necessary.  Co-ordination optional but will avoid embarrassment!

A unique sledging event in Adelboden when over 100 two-man teams steer their way down Chuenisbärgli to the finishing post at breakneck speeds. 

 

Only original Horaschlitta slegdes with wood or skids which are iron worked are permitted.  Traditional clothes also encouraged.  Cushion is optional.
